About Immigration Medical Exams

  • Dr. Rahaman will perform a physical examination to satisfy the requirements of the USCIS.

  • A blood sample will be obtained for Syphilis (usually age 15 years and older).

  • A tuberculosis skin test will be performed.

The US government requires specific vaccinations according to your age. Please bring proof of all prior vaccinations with you to your scheduled appointment.

A medical examination is part of the application process for obtaining entry and/or residency to the United States for individuals of all ages. Examination requirements are determined by age and immunization record. An adult examination (15 years or older) typically consists of the following:

A physical examination

A tuberculin (TB/PPD) skin test is required for all persons 2 years or older. After the skin test is applied, you must return to us in 48 to 72 hours for it to be read. A skin test is considered "positive" if there is a reaction of 5 mm or more. Anyone with a "positive" skin test must have a chest x-ray. In addition, if you have a history of TB or a history of a positive TB skin test, a chest x-ray is required. Many patients have received BCG vaccination in their home country, however a skin test for TB is still required.

A blood test for syphilis (RPR)

Routine immunizations such as chickenpox (varicella), MMR (measles, mumps, rubella) and tetanus-diphtheria

A pediatric examination (children 14 years of age or younger) does not require blood testing and typically consists of the following:

A physical examination

A TB skin test

A review and update of routine pediatric immunizations

The Day of Your Examination

Please bring the following items for each family member with you on the day of your examination:

USCIS Form I-693

USCIS Form I-94 (Arrival-Departure Record)

Passport

All medications and immunization records for each family member seeking entry, especially important for pre-school and school-age children

Any recent records of blood tests for syphilis, measles (rubeola), rubella (German measles), mumps or chickenpox titers

Any record of a chest x-ray (within 10 years)

Any records of a skin test for TB

Exam Fees

All examination fees are due at the time of service. Your health insurance will not cover this expense. Family Medicine Solutions accepts only Cash, Visa, MasterCard and American Express.

Time Required to Process Paperwork

The physical exam, PPD test reading, blood test results and paperwork completion require two to four days. If a chest x-ray is required because of a positive PPD skin test, the process can take a few days longer. You will be notified of the results of your lab work (and chest x-ray, if done) as soon as they are available, usually 1 to 2 business days after test is performed. Results will be noted on USCIS Form I-693 and placed in a sealed envelope that should be given either to your lawyer or directly to USCIS.
